According to Norwegian folk legend, trolls roam through the mountains of Trollstigen every night, but change to stone when they are hit by sunlight each morning. Travel along the Troll Road (known locally as Trollstigen) and you'll witness an impressive piece of road that snakes and climbs its way up, up, up along skyrocketing mountains and down eleven hairpin turns to the valley below. In some stretches of road, it's cut into the mountain or built on top of stone walls. This spectacular scenic drive takes you along the shoreline of the Romsdalsfjord and through quaint villages, with photo stops where you can capture its mesmerizing beauty. Lunch in the village of Valldal affords picturesque views of alpine mountains and steep, green hills. On your return drive, you'll stop at the Troll Wall; at 3,608 feet, it's the tallest vertical rock face in Europe.
Special Notes:
There is an optional walk to the viewpoint at Trollstigheimen, which includes approximately 138 steps. Please remember to carry local currency (Norwegian Kroner) for any additional purchases. This tour involves several tunnels.Details
