Dublin's history comes alive on this fascinating 6.5-hour adventure that includes time on your own. Settle in for a scenic drive alongside the River Liffey, passing Dublin's original prehistoric settlement and the site of the 12th-century medieval city en route to Dublin Castle. Upon arriving, you'll marvel at this imposing structure. A symbol of British rule over Ireland for seven centuries, the castle began as a 13th-century Anglo-Norman fortress. Your guided tour takes you through the state apartments adorned with Killybeg carpets and Waterford chandeliers. Next, travel to St. Patrick's Cathedral. Built in honor of Ireland's patron saint in 1190, it is not only the largest church in Ireland but is also said to be one of the earliest Christian sites in Ireland where St. Patrick baptized converts. Today, St. Patrick's is the national cathedral for the Church of Ireland (Anglican). Conclude the day with independent exploration of Dublin City and lunch at your own expense. Relax on the motorcoach ride back to the ship after this lovely day.
Special Notes:
Dublin Castle may close last minute (without notice) due to government events. Free time will be provided for guests to purchase lunch (at their own expense). On 18th May 2024, the St. Patrick's Cathedral visit will be replaced by the Christchurch Cathedral.
