Experience Tasmania's history and wild side on this half-day excursion. Stroll historic Richmond, home to Australia's finest Georgian village. Visit one of Australia's most popular wildlife sanctuaries and meet Australia's indigenous inhabitants. In historic Richmond, discover a beautifully preserved Georgian village and Australia's oldest jail, bridge and church. You'll also make a photo stop at St. John's Church, the oldest Roman Catholic church in Australia. Afterwards, you'll have free time to explore the historic buildings that are now shops, galleries, tearooms and inns. At the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, observe some of Australia's most famous natives, such as Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos and wallabies. The animals roam free in their natural habitats, and you'll get a chance to interact with many of them. Bring your camera! Return to port after this fun and fascinating day.
Special Notes:
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have advised that any passenger visiting the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary must wash their shoes upon return to the ship for biosecurity reasons. This footwear will then need to be presented at the New Zealand Customs and Agriculture & Forestry Inspection which will take place during the cruise.Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bring bottled water.
Some areas of Bonorong are not wheelchair accessible, there are some slight inclines and dirt paths. Guests with visual or hearing impairments or travelling in a wheelchair must travel with a companion at all times.
Many of the streets in Richmond are cobblestones which may cause difficulties for guests with mobility concerns.
