Here's your chance to relive some of Juneau's rich gold mining history. This small-group guided tour takes you to the Alaska Gastineau Mill. You'll depart your ship for the short ride to the mill's historic site. It's then time to put on your hard hat and venture underground. Dress warm, as the mine tunnel averages 36 degrees F. Inside, experienced miners will show you how they get the gold out of the hard rock, and give you a feel for the mining lifestyle. By now, you've got "gold fever" of your own. After a brief demonstration, you'll pan for gold, with "pay dirt" guaranteed. Wander among displays, assayer's office, the old mill ruins and the gift shop before re-boarding your transport, richer for the day's experience.
