If you're looking for a new way to experience Picton's breathtaking beauty, then hop aboard the famed Marlborough Flyer. Originally built in 1915, the fully restored train will make you feel as if you've been transported to a bygone era. Sit back and relax as the train leaves Picton across the Waitohi viaduct then marvel at the train's ultimate power as it makes the strenuous climb up Picton Elevation, a challenging 1-in-37 gradient slope. Upon reaching the plateau, the journey meanders alongside the Para Wetlands, across the Wairau River and the magnificent Wairau Valley. Vineyards stretch all the way to Blenheim where the train traverses Marlborough's rolling hills, snaking through the Dashwood Pass, bursting into the beautiful Awatere Valley. The final stretch crosses the Awatere River and stops at Seddon station where you can stretch your legs, take photos and purchase refreshments before the return journey to Picton.
