Seven hours chock-full of sightseeing begins at the ancient ruins of Akrotiri, which was buried after a volcanic eruption and unearthed after 3,500 years. Then it's on to Oia for a guided stroll through the cobblestone lanes, viewing the whitewashed buildings, shops and blue-domed churches. Continue to a vineyard for a tasting of the world-renowned wines produced in the island's rich volcanic soil. Then thrill to the views atop Mt. Prophet Elias, 2,000 feet above sea level. Pause for a traditional Greek lunch then a photo stop at the famed black-sand beach of Perissa. Conclude in Fira, a stunning combination of Cycladic and Venetian architecture, with outstanding views of the volcano. A steep walk to the upper portion of town takes you to the cable car for the ride back to port.
